Community Overview

Turnersville is a community within Washington Township, on the township's eastern side where Timber Creek begins. John Turner kept a store here from 1800 to 1840, and the community takes its name from the Turner family.

    • The 1883 county history describes Turnersville on the Williamstown and Good Intent turnpike, with a stone grist-mill built by Peter Cheeseman before 1800, a sawmill built by Isaac Collins in 1800, two stores, a blacksmith shop, a Methodist Episcopal church and about 150 residents.
    • Today Route 168, the Black Horse Pike, crosses Turnersville, and Route 42 runs along its edge.
