What was reported
  • The Township Committee approved two resolutions this month naming McDonald's and AutoZone as redevelopers of two undeveloped lots on Auburn Road, next to the ShopRite at Center Square Plaza
  • Both lots sit inside the Weatherby Redevelopment Area, so each project gets an additional round of municipal review before it reaches the township's Joint Land Use Board
  • Each designation runs 60 days from adoption, with another 60 days possible, and no Joint Land Use Board hearing has been scheduled yet

Reported by 42Freeway.com. Summary in our words.

Earlier in August the Woolwich Township Committee chose McDonald's and AutoZone as the companies to develop two empty lots on Auburn Road at Center Square Plaza, one vote for each. McDonald's would sit nearer Franklin Bank, AutoZone over at the Copper Road corner.

Being chosen is not an approval. Both lots are in the Weatherby Redevelopment Area. Under New Jersey rules, that adds a round of town review before the plans reach the township's Joint Land Use Board. Each company works out the details of its project with the township before filing for approvals, and has 60 days from the Committee's vote to do it, which can be extended another 60 days and longer by formal action of the Committee.

Day to day, it adds another stop on a trip most households already make to that shopping center. Formal site plans are not on file yet, so the timing, the layout and even the tenants can still change.

Our take

The township picked McDonald's and AutoZone to build on two lots on Auburn Road beside the ShopRite. If you own in Woolwich, that is two more errands close to home, and we can tell you what your property would bring.

Curious what your Woolwich home would bring? Let's talk.

A redeveloper designation is not a development approval. Formal site plans have not been filed and no Joint Land Use Board hearing has been scheduled. Plans can change.
