Mullica Hill is the first and largest of the four villages in Harrison Township, alongside Ewan, Richwood and Jefferson. The township covers about 19 square miles and counted 13,641 residents in the 2020 Census; of those, 4,698 live in Mullica Hill, as the Census maps it.

  • Routes 45, 55, 77 and 322 all run through the township.
  • Harrison places itself between Exit 2 of the New Jersey Turnpike and Exit 50 of Route 55, about 30 minutes from Center City Philadelphia and Wilmington.

• Landmarks

  • The Mullica Hill Historic District on Main Street was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1991.
  • It covers about 68 acres and 136 historic buildings.
  • The Old Town Hall at South Main Street and Woodstown Road dates to 1871, and the railroad came in from Glassboro in 1879.
  • The village's first antique shop opened in 1967.

• Schools

  • Harrison Township School District runs pre-K through grade 3 at Harrison Township Elementary and grades 4 to 6 at Pleasant Valley School.
  • For grades 7 to 12, Harrison and Mantua Township share the Clearview Regional district, with one middle school and one high school.

• History

  • The village takes its name from the Mullica family, the area's earliest recorded settlers.
  • Land north of Raccoon Creek was surveyed for William Mullica in 1704, and the name first appears in writing in Robert Zane's will of 1772.
  • The township was formed in 1844 as Spicer Township and renamed Harrison a year later, for General William Henry Harrison, later the ninth president.
