More New Jersey homes are on
the market than a year ago
There were 22,746 homes for sale in New Jersey in September, 12.1% more than a year earlier, while fewer homes sold and fewer buyers signed deals.

New Jersey REALTORS® publishes a statewide market report every month. The September report shows more homes on the market and fewer of them selling. There were 22,746 homes for sale in the state, up 12.1% from 20,291 in September 2025, and 11,028 homes were newly put up for sale during the month, up 3.8%.
7,243 homes sold in September, down 5.8% from 7,693 a year earlier, and buyers signed deals on 6,388 homes, down 11.3% from 7,200. The median sale price across all homes was $550,000, up 2.8% from $535,000. Homes took 38 days to sell, the same as a year ago, and sellers received 101.0% of the asking price on average, also unchanged.
At September's pace of sales, the homes on the market would take about 3.3 months to sell, up from 2.9 months a year earlier. Townhouses and condos had the biggest jump in homes for sale: 5,819, up 22.5% from 4,749. Their median sale price was $429,900, down 1.2%. For single family homes, 14,638 were for sale, up 8.1%, and the median sale price was $614,000, up 5.0%.
