East Greenwich covers about 14 square miles of Gloucester County and counted 11,706 residents and 4,082 housing units in the 2020 Census. Interstate 295 runs through it. The Death of the Fox Inn in Mount Royal, pictured above, was built before 1765 and is thought to have been the headquarters of the Gloucester Fox Hunting Club.

Schools, grade by grade

The East Greenwich Township School District runs preschool through grade 6. Jeffrey Clark School teaches preschool through grade 2, and Samuel Mickle School teaches grades 3 to 6. For grades 7 to 12, East Greenwich students attend the Kingsway Regional School District: Kingsway Regional Middle School for grades 7 and 8, and Kingsway Regional High School for grades 9 to 12. Kingsway also serves Swedesboro, South Harrison and Woolwich, and Logan Township sends its high school students there.

Three villages, one township

Mickleton, Clarksboro and Mount Royal grew up as villages, and all three are part of East Greenwich. The New Jersey Legislature created the township on February 10, 1881, from a western part of Mantua Township and an eastern part of Greenwich Township.

A Quaker meetinghouse on Kings Highway

The Upper Greenwich Friends Meetinghouse, at 413 Kings Highway in Mickleton, is a two-story brick building from 1799, with a graveyard behind it. Samuel Mickle, the man Mickleton is named for, sold the Quakers part of the land it stands on. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1997.

What to know

Most homes in East Greenwich have a Mickleton, Clarksboro or Mount Royal mailing address, so a search for East Greenwich alone can miss them. If you are looking here, we include all three names in your search.
