After that filing, the Rhode Island chain took over nearly two dozen former Big Lots stores along the East Coast. In New Jersey those included Mays Landing, Barnegat, Somers Point and Cape May, all since reopened as Ocean State Job Lot stores.
The chain was founded in 1977 and reports 175 stores, 7,000 associates and annual sales above $900 million. It describes itself as the Northeast's largest privately held discount retailer. Before the Glassboro opening, it held walk-up job fairs at its Deptford store on Almonesson Road to hire part-time store staff.
