Reported by NJBIZ. Summary in our words.

Inspira Medical Center Mullica Hill opened a new 36,000 square foot maternity unit on Aug. 17, doubling the footprint of the unit it replaces. Staffed maternity beds went from 20 to 38. The space is laid out to carry patients and their families through labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum care, with more room for privacy and for families to talk with staff.

The unit is one piece of a $257 million expansion and renovation of the hospital. Work on the maternity space started in March 2025, and Inspira Health broke ground on the wider project in 2024.

The rest of that project centers on a new five story tower of about 150,000 square feet, expected to begin serving patients in early 2027. Inspira has decided to build out the full tower rather than hold part of it in reserve. On delivery it expects to add 86 beds, bringing the hospital's licensed count to 296, along with a 24 bed observation unit meant to move patients through faster and reduce waiting in the emergency department. An added 32 bed surgical unit, more intensive care capacity, specialized neuro ICU resources tied to a neuroscience partnership with Cooper University Health Care, expanded space for clinical education and residency programs, updated dining and pharmacy services and additional parking are also in the plan.

Newsweek listed the hospital as a five ribbon maternity hospital, one of 19 in New Jersey to make its national list.

Our take

A hospital that keeps adding beds is one of the things buyers ask about when they compare towns, and this one went from 20 maternity beds to 38. If you own in Harrison Township, that is one more thing working for your address.
